On Wednesday the 9th of September, Lauren Conrad unofficially kicked off New York’s fashion week with the launch of her new collection which became available to purchase online from Kohls directly after the show. Uncontroversial and beautifully basic, this collection did Lauren Conrad many favours after her debut collection back in 2008 where she was slated by the media.
Kendall Jenner led the runway for Diane Von Furstenberg along with model A-listers Gigi Hadid, Jourdan Dunn and Karlie Kloss. All of the models looked stunning with blue/ green eyeshadow and very wearable runway outfits.
Givenchy held their first ever runway show in New York City after choosing New York over Paris this year. The models strutted down the catwalk to Buddhist monk chanting and ‘face lace’ was a distinguishing factor of the models in this show. Another great thing about the Givenchy show was that in the audience was 1000 ‘real’ people as 820 tickets were given to Givenchy fans, 100 to fashion students and the rest to locals.
FTL Mode broke the boundaries yet again this year by redefining the meaning of true beauty. Rebekah Marine, a model with a bionic arm and Madeline Stewart, an Australian beauty with down syndrome both took to the runway sporting FTL Mode clothing.
The designer-to-watch so far was Misha Nonoo who chose not to showcase her collection on the runway but to display it as an ‘instashow’ on her instagram account with celebrities such as Olivia Palermo and Lena Dunham taking part.
“A year ago, I had artist Dustin Yellin, dressed as a woman, walk the runway; last season, I had a live orchestra; and this season, it’s an Insta-show. So I don’t really know what the future holds.” With incredible creativity and initiative, this designer is one to watch!
We can’t wait to see what the next few days have to offer!
